Essential Elements to Include in Your Home Bar

October 30, 2014

When building their custom homes, homeowners often choose to include a home bar for easy entertaining. At Luetgert Development, we’ve built numerous home bars in the Ocala area. Each bar has been unique, but many have the same essential features. Whether you put your bar on the patio, in an entertainment room or in the kitchen, there are many options when designing the bar that is right for you. Here are some must-have features for your home bar.

Storage Space

Racks Allow for Glasses to be Stored in Plain Sight

With varying sizes of glasses, different bottles and utensils, every bar needs to have space for storage. Racks that allow glasses and bottles to hang in plain sight give off a bar-like ambiance. For those that want to hide bottles and glassware, cabinets may be a better option. Just like the kitchen, cabinetry can be customized to accommodate for all items related to drinks.

Refrigerator

Many wines, beers and liquors require chilling, so having a refrigerator at your home bar is convenient. It is also useful for storing any additional garnishes you may need like limes, olives or oranges. There’s no need to run to the kitchen if those items are right there. You may also want to consider adding an icemaker or separate wine cooler.

Bar Sink

Make your home bar a “wet bar” by including plumbing and a sink. Sinks come in handy when you need to rinse out glasses and during cleanup. Having a sink is especially useful if your bar is outside on the patio or if it is far away from the kitchen.

Counter Space

When designing your bar, give yourself some counter space to prepare drinks. The amount of prep area you have will depend on where your place it in the home and scale of the bar. A larger home bar will often have more counter space to prepare and serve drinks.

Guest Seating

Provide Plenty of Guest Seating to Make Your Bar the Center of Attention

If you want your bar to be the center of your entertaining area, provide seating for your guests. Barstools come in many different styles. Add at least a few of them surrounding your bar. If there’s not enough room to include stools in front of the bar, place neighboring couches or chairs around the room.
