Ramp Up Your Home’s Style With Dramatic Windows

December 4, 2014

Windows are an important element in a home’s design. From the style of the window, to choosing materials and colors, the options are endless. At Luetgert Development, we know that homeowners have many decisions to make when choosing windows for their custom homes. Here are some styles of windows that are sure to add drama and elegance to any room.

Casement and Awning Windows

Casement Windows are hinged on either the right of left side and can be opened with a crank. When opened, the window swings out. Like casement windows, awning windows open outward with a hinge, but from the top to let in air from the bottom or the sides. If you’re thinking about adding these windows to your home, try them over the sink in the kitchen.

Picture and Stationary Windows

A picture window, also known as a fixed window, is large and does not open, but allows the maximum amount of light to shine in from outside. Stationary windows are the easiest to customize. Because they can be made into different shapes and angles, many modern homes utilize uniquely shaped stationary windows. Picture and stationary windows can be placed throughout your home.

Transom and Skylight Windows

A transom window is narrow and used to either let in air or light. Transom windows are generally found above a door or stationary window to add extra detail and light to a space. It can be fixed or open depending on its purpose. A skylight window, or a roof window, is installed in the ceiling for ventilation or to let in light.

Double-Hung or Slider Windows

Double-hung and slider windows both move along a track. They have two sliding sashes (or panels) that can move to let in air. Double-hung windows open and close vertically, while slider windows move horizontally. Which rooms are ideal for these types of windows? Try them in bedrooms or the living room!

Bay or Bow Windows

Windows for Custom Homes: Bay or Bow Windows

These windows are designed to project outward past the exterior of the home. Bay and bow windows give the homeowner more interior space. These windows can include a combination of stationary, double-hung or casement windows. Bay or bow windows are perfect for your living room. Add some seating and drapery to highlight the window.

Windows let in natural light and provide ventilation, but also allow you to show off your personal style. They can turn a dark area into a bright and warm space.
