Keeping Your Children Entertained During the Holidays
December 23, 2014During this time of year, school is out, it’s cold outside and children have a lot of free time on their hands. At Luetgert Development, we know that it can be challenging to keep children entertained when their off from school, especially when it’s too cold to play outdoors. Thankfully, there are lots of fun activities you can do with your little ones from the comfort of your home. Make some memories this holiday season with these ideas.
Decorate the Home with Your Helpers
Let your kids help you trim the tree and place decorations around the house. These are great hands-on and festive activities to involve your kids in. Pull out the boxes filled with stockings, ornaments, lights, wreaths and figurines. If you’re really ambitious, try stringing popcorn or try making DIY decorations! They will love seeing their masterpieces displayed around the house.
Get Them in the Kitchen
Cooking is a big part of the holiday season. Pass on your family’s cooking traditions, while keeping your kids busy by bringing them into the kitchen. Have them help cook a traditional Hanukkah or Christmas dinner, from latkes and Challah to beef tenderloin and green beans. For desert, bake cookies, or make a Gingerbread House. And don’t forget to drink cocoa or hot chocolate!
More Fun Home Activities
There are many other indoor activities to fill in the gaps between the time you spend travelling, cooking and attending parties over the holidays. Have reading time, hold movie marathon, or bring out the puzzles and board games. Family game nights are always a blast! Some other ideas: do crafts, make jewelry, or create handmade holiday cards for relatives. Playing dress up, building forts, or having a spa day are entertaining and memorable ways to spend time with your children, too.
