What Are Some of the Top Bathroom Design Trends?
January 14, 2015“Unmentionables” supposedly stemmed from the Victorian Era’s over-sensitivity to the use of the word trousers. But since the Victorian crowd couldn’t discuss the exact meaning without blushing, the word may have referred to underwear or certain aspects…ahem…of the human anatomy.
Which brings us to the bathroom, where matters relating to “unmentionables” take place.
For us modern folk with 21st century tastes and sensibilities, we want our bathrooms to look good, to have an aesthetically pleasing design and to reflect our own sense of fashion and personality.
We at Luetgert Development want our customers to have the tools, resources and advice to make the best choices about the look of their bathrooms – in this case, we’ll call it the mentionables.
2015 Bathroom Design Trends
Here are six of the top bathroom design trends from This Old House:
1. Prepare yourself for bathroom luxury – and not at all unmentionable. Taking a shower or bath should include an all-encompassing experience involving multiple senses: Built-in audio systems, chromatherapy and a tub-side refrigerator. Or even a refrigerator medicine cabinet, which is great for nail polish, organic skin products or medicines that should be kept refrigerated.
2. How about a short trip to the rain forest? DTV showers, which were released last year, come packed with unmentionable goodies, such as a control system that monitors water pressure and temperature, and also includes, of course, chromatherapy, steam and a stereo system. You won’t want to leave your bathroom.
3. The hills are alive with the sound of music. Or in this case, the walls are alive with the sound of music. One manufacturer is offering bathers a built-in stereo system which is controlled from a remote amplifier and is connected to a CD or MP3 player. The sound comes through tub walls. Look ma, no speakers.
4. The green people are invading your bathroom – green being environmentally friendly and conservationist. One company introduced low-flow toilets, which gives … how do we put this? … bathroom users the option in flush quantity. They can do the .8 gallon flush or the 1.6 gallon flush. Most large manufacturers are now getting in on the dual-flush trend.
5. Moving along in the same mode – please, no pun intended! – some companies are beginning to offer low-flow aerators. One company’s electronic faucet employs activation sensor technology that conserves water by detecting false activations. That just might mean you don’t have to wash your hands if you didn’t really want to in the first place.
6. Let’s get back in the shower. One company is offering traditionally looking – and high-tech – showerheads that are able to determine water droplet size and velocity, spray coverage and thermal dynamics. That means you can get clean and shiny, feel good doing it and retain your clear conscience on environmental matters. Cool, right?
