Top Three Ceiling Styles for Homes

September 24, 2015

One of the most difficult decisions to make when designing your dream home is picking your home’s ceiling style. Nowadays, there are many options that one can pick from to make their home unique. For example, one could choose a domed ceiling for a dramatic flair, a cathedral style ceiling for an ethereal feeling, or even a coffered style for modern slick lines.

Here at Luetgert Development, we have built homes with all types of ceiling styles, affording us a unique take on the best style for every home. To help you in the process of designing your home, we’ve put together our top three ceiling styles for homes.

Tray Ceilings

Tray ceiling style for your home

Tray ceilings are a unique and simple, but very much modern style that could fit just about any home. Most tray ceilings have a simple cut-out design, where the center part of the ceiling is recessed. Depending on the desired style, some ceilings have the mid part painted a different color, or accent lights placed in specific locations to achieve different effects. In addition to this, many home owners go the extra mile and add extra recessed edges that take the effect from the wall all the way to the deepest part of the ceiling. This style creates a dramatic effect and provides a bigger depth to the room.

Exposed Beam Ceilings

This style has come a long way! Whereas before you only saw exposed wooden beams in lodgings or cabin homes, nowadays you can find exposed beams in homes all over the country. With this style, you can pick a more traditional feel with an exposed wooden beam, or a modern look with exposed metal beams. Either style will add a striking look to your home. In addition, by not covering the beam that runs along your ceiling, you are creating an open look throughout the room, which is perfect if you’re working with a limited space.

Vaulted Ceilings

This style is by far the most requested one, especially when we’re designing large areas such as living or dining rooms. Vaulted ceilings can be constructed in different styles, but the traditional and most requested style is where the ceiling angles up from the wall and connects in a steep triangular shape, opening the room up and making it feel spacious. This type of ceiling can be combined with an exposed beam style where the ceiling connects at the top where the beam runs along the room. In doing this, we have not only added height and a sense of space to the room, but we have also introduced a more traditional rustic look to tie everything together.
