How to Make the Home Building Process as Quick and Painless as Possible
August 11, 2014When building a custom home or renovation, there are a lot of important decisions to make, from the number of rooms to the materials you choose. As a premier Ocala builder, we know that choosing these details for your home can be overwhelming, but the process shouldn’t be painful. Here are some tips to make the building process as quick and painless as possible.
1. Hire a Licensed Contractor
While it can be tempting to do it yourself, take the guesswork out of building your new home. Licensed contractors can give you the expertise and knowledge you need to get the job done right. They know what it takes to put the proper permits and plans in place. Veteran contractors can also refer quality vendors they have worked with in the past. But, be wary of non-licensed contractors. Instead, hire one with a proven reputation and track record.
2. Create a Plan
Figure out as many details as you can before starting and talk to your builder about the must-haves on your list. Is it essential for you to have three walk-in closets or extra storage space? Do you want a specific type of flooring throughout the home? Let your contractor know, so they can lay out your options. Having a plan in place before the project begins can help each part of the process go more smoothly.
3. Overestimate in Your Budget
Set a realistic budget and add in a little extra to account for unexpected costs during building. At Luetgert, we don’t want your expenses to go up any more than you do. Having some wiggle room in your budget will make dealing with unanticipated situations a lot easier. You should also overestimate when purchasing materials like tile. It is recommended to order 10 to 15 percent extra to cover breakage during installation and years down the road.
