Choosing the Right Community for Your Family

September 8, 2014

When designed to your specifications, your dream home is hopefully the house you will stay in for a long time. At Luetgert Development, we aim to build homes in the Ocala, Fla. area that our customers are happy living in for many years to come. This is why choosing the right community for your family is an incredibly important step in the home-building process. Here are some key factors to consider when looking at potential neighborhoods.

Determine Your Ideal Neighborhood.

Look into specific communities that fit your price range.

Before searching for communities to build in, create a profile with all your must-haves. What does your ideal neighborhood look like? Does it need to be gated? What are the homeowner’s association rules you are okay with following?

What would the size of the houses be? How many rooms would you like to have? Having a clear picture in your mind of what you want can be very helpful when narrowing down your options.

Which Area Do You Want to Live in?

After you have created your ideal community profile, figure out the location. There are a number of factors that can help you choose the right area. Does your home need to be close to where you work? Or, are you okay with having to commute?

If you have children or plan to in the future, which school district do you want to be zoned for? What is the crime level like in those particular areas? Do you want to be close to convenience stores, restaurants or parks? Once you have answered this question, you will have a more defined radius of communities to look at.

Decide on Your Price Range.

Create a profile of your idea neighborhood before your search.

Now that you have decided on an area, start looking into specific neighborhoods that fit your price range. How much are you reasonably able to afford for a new home? Start your search by taking a look at the estimated value of comparable houses within the communities you would like to visit.

It can also be helpful to look at each neighborhood’s recent housing activity. Has the neighborhood had a number of foreclosures lately, or is it an up-in-coming community? Once you find a community that meets your vision, location and price range, you are all set to start building your custom home.
