Resolve to Take Advantage of These Home Organization Tips
January 15, 2016Even if you never make new year’s resolutions, there is no doubt that many of us would like to get better at home organization.
It doesn’t have to be just a goal or a resolution, home organization can actually be a reality. As a custom home builder in Ocala, we at Luetgert Development know our clients love the beautiful homes we build for them. And because they love their homes, they want to do their best to keep them clean and organized. Consider these home organization tips to get you started.
Make A List
Use a notes app on your smart phone or tablet and start a list of all the areas in your home that need attention. Maybe it’s the back door area where everyone comes in and throws down their stuff. Maybe it’s the kitchen counter or the den or the bathroom. You get the idea. Write it down.
Choose A Starting Point
Don’t start with the whole kitchen. Instead start with a drawer or cabinet or shelf. By doing it this way you’ll see some progress, which will motivate you to keep on going. A bunch of small successes can easily add up to one big success.
Clear the Space
You may create a temporary mess when you clear your space out, but you have to start somewhere. Empty the drawer, clear the closet and clean off the shelf. You’ll actually enjoy seeing a clean and fresh spot for beginning your work.
Designate the Space
Now decide what activity you’d like to take place there. Is that a homework zone or the kitchen counter or both? Is that the food prep area or communication center where all the gadgets get plugged in for charging? Make your decision and be sure to let your family know.
Organize the Space
Now you can get down to business of organizing the space. Bring in the things you need to make the most of your space, like bins or baskets or boxes. Before you buy new items like this, see if you already have items around the house that can work for this purpose. Spice racks from the kitchen can be used to hold shampoo and other hair products in the bathroom. Drawer organizers can be used for makeup rather than utensils.
