January 29, 2016Thinking about a new custom-built home in 2016? Then continue reading because you’ll likely want to incorporate the latest trends into your new home.
As a custom-home builder in Ocala, Florida, we at Luetgert Development enjoy sharing the latest in home trends and news with our clients and readers of this blog. Let us know what you think about the following home trends:
Wall of Style
The accent wall gets an update for 2016. It’s no longer just a bold paint color or wallpaper print on one wall. Think of the new accent wall as a wall of style for your home. It’s a wall where you can show off style and character. Think unique materials like reclaimed barn wood, metallic tiles or even stone. It’s like bringing that fabulous backsplash out from beneath the cabinets in your kitchen and making it a whole wall in your kitchen or bath.
Open Kitchen
This is the year of the open kitchen, according to the 2016 U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Survey. Forget the boundaries that separate the kitchen from the rest of the home. Today’s open kitchen blurs those lines and incorporates features and functions from elsewhere in the home, including chandeliers, dining tables, TVs and desks. It’s the most happening place in the home. In addition to the 69 percent using it for eating and dining, according to the survey, 49 percent use it for entertaining and 43 percent for socializing.
New Colors
Are you ready for rose quartz and serenity in your home? Think dusty pink and pale blue. You’re likely to see it in plenty of home furnishings this year as these two are Pantone’s color of the year. Yes, this year for the first time, the color of the year is actually two colors. You’ll see it pop up in fabrics, paint, home décor items, fashions and more as you’re shopping for you and your home. Why these colors? Pantone puts it like this “Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”
Fireplace as Focal Point
OK, so fireplaces have never left, even here in Ocala, Florida. People still love their fireplaces. But today’s homeowners are bringing them back like never before and making them the focal point of the living room. The stone and masonry work of the fireplace is moving on up and out, taking over the entire wall. See wall of style above. And the furniture is begging to be placed all around it, offering homeowners a great place to connect and unwind.
