How to Avoid Costly Delays in Building a Custom Home

February 9, 2016

Everyone is free to change their mind, of course. We all do it all the time. But when it comes to home renovations or building a new custom home, changing your mind can be costly.

As a custom home builder in Ocala, Florida, we at Luetgert Development love working with our clients in building them the house of their dreams. We walk our clients through every phase of the home construction process, from the review of blueprints to the interior furnishings.

We are always happy to work with our clients on any changes they’d like to make, but we always remind them that some changes can result in an increase in costs and delays in completion.  To avoid costly delays in getting into your new home, consider the following home construction tips.

Look Ahead to the End Goal

As you work with a general contractor on designing your custom built home, think ahead to what you want the finished product to look like and what you will be doing in each room. Don’t plan a formal type dining room if that’s not your family’s style. Maybe you just want a larger kitchen with space for a big table. Make these types of decisions at the beginning.

Ask Plenty of Questions

Never be afraid to ask your contractor questions. That’s part of what we do. Have you thought about how the natural light will come from that section of windows you requested? What will the traffic flow be like from one room to the next?  Is there a certain piece of furniture you wanted to get into your foyer? The more questions you ask at the beginning the better. This can help prevent costly changes later down the line.

Ask for Updates

Here at Luetgert Development, we keep the lines of communication open with all of our clients throughout the home-building process. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way. We like to update our clients regularly, so you always know what’s happening week to week.

Get The Home You Want

We want you to be pleased with your custom built home so make sure your contractor knows about all the specific features and tiny details you’ve been dreaming about. Whether it’s a certain type of lighting, a specific flooring material or the size of the crown molding, mention those things at the beginning.  When construction is complete, we want you to have the home you’ve always dreamed of.
